Since I bought ZBrush, I have been avidly reading the posts in this forum. I have finally come up with an image to contribute. Thanks to everyone for the great artwork, tutorials, and suggestions. Without all the help, I would still be drawing spheres and cubes. Anyway, here it is. Constructive criticism is certainly welcome. I realize the subject matter is a little different than some of the other posts here, but I was never like all the other children...

This is a great image. You've gone a long way from just cubes and spheres. The texturing is especially nice and I like the way you have things cropping out of the composition which helps with that "snapshot" kind of impression. Fun stuff!

Hi Brn

I was one of those kids myself, I think in Art, music and life in general it is an asset :)

I love your image it is incredibly well done and a nice slice of life. Don't you hate it when you step on someone's bubble gum and have to look at thier trash.

and yes the bottle! let us in on your secret

Well, about that bottle.. I think it went something like this:

1) I created a new layer.
2) I then drew a cylinder, initializing the inner radius to about 85.
3) I selected the portion of the bottle I wanted to be the neck, inverted the selection, then Scaled XY until I was happy with it.
4) Then I selected the very end of the neck, inverted the selection, Scaled XY (or Inflated) to create the lip of the bottle.
5) So that the broken part of the bottle wouldn't be straight across the middle, I then selected the neck and used Taper X to put some angle to the broken end.
6) I found the broken edge to be a little tricky. At first I just tried to turn off the SH & SV but then the bottle wasn't smooth any more. So I turned SH & SV back on and divided the broken edge once or twice. I Rotated Y 90 so that the X- axis would be along the length of the bottle. In the Transform menu Modifiers I then constrained editing to the X direction only. Then in Edit mode I used Move to manipulate the mesh points at the edge to make it look broken.
7) I placed the bottle in the scene where I wanted it, then created transparency with the Clone brush following Pixolator's tutorial. This made the bottle 'clear' so then I went back and added the green tint to it with the Layer brush (I think).
8) I used the 3D brush with a deep, narrow tip to 'cut' into the bottle to make the crack.
9) The broken shards were made much in the same way, starting with a cube.

I hope this makes sense. :qu: :)

Hello Brn,

Superb image. I too like slices of life - a still life that says so much. For me I see life in the gutter, a true low point in life. A world in decay, alcohol and failed dreams. The broken bottle - a life shattered by alcohol, the losing lottery ticket - the failed dreams. What was once fresh and alive, the leaves - now brown and dead. The only thing left is entering the drain itself.

The footprint embossing the gum is brilliant. I look forward to seeing more :)

Hi Brn,

Simply Amazing bottle!

I like the textures, and what appears to be chewing gum and a footprint on the wall.

I look forward to seeing your images here in the future...

thank you, brn! apart from showing an expertise way of creating the bottle your mini-tutorial reminded me of using the transformation palettes xyz features (OMG, how often do i have to be told things! :D ) whenever i look at your pic i like it even better (i didn’t get the lottery ticket as they look different over here - thank you, impending!)

Cool! :) The sneaker marks in the cement and chewing gum are nice touches to a swift looking image.
