Aside from the sucky title, :) I was developing this specifically in the mind of testing out this scene with the new version of ZBrush when it comes out. The lettering on the soap was done with the aid of Elefont, everything else ZBrush. I still have to smooth out the tiles somehow, plus put more texturing details and toenails on the feet.
I used Muvlo's Snap To Grid Script (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=003500) to space the tiles evenly.
The water droplets were done using techniques from this tutorial posted by Pixolator (transparency and shadows). (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=000142)

Very well done. Just need to add some toenails.
Great modeling...good colour...balanced composition...overall a fine illustrative work. :tu: :tu: :tu:

hey thats top quality graphic work. very clean and sharp. nice work wing, but then again i wouldnt expect anything less from you.
Hi WingedOne!
Looks great! The colors of the flesh and tiles compliment each other very well. And such lovely tiles. Would they be on the floor of a large shower at a health club? Even though I'd guess those are 4 inch tiles, and therefore seems like a standard shower floor dimension, the floor feels very big. Maybe a hint of a wall in back or left side, or both?
I'll be looking forward to seeing this rendered using the global illumination renderer in 1.5. Should be an excellent example! :tu: :tu: :tu:

coooooool :tu:
Digits you might want to buy some soap on a Rope LOL that way you don't have to bend over to pick it up lol
wow, very nice indeed! Can't wait to see the finished one.

i think there is some universal physical law that makes soap fall down and skid behind you (and onto the drain, usually) :D so my suggestion would be to either turn them legs or place the soap behind them - just joking :D great concept though i am with Adman and pro adding a wall to limit the space of the shower tub. especially one in the back to diminish operational ground for any naval attacks :D

This is very excellent. You are the master of perspective.
I would disagree about the wall in the back I think the space contrasts well with the "in your face" soap.
very good shape to the feet. Overall the lines and balance are very clean.
Excellent image, all well modelled :) :tu: :tu: :tu:

Thanks for the comments, folks. :) I'll try to see what it looks like with and without the additional walls and see what I like better.
By the way, I find Muvlo's Snap To Grid Script (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=003500) invaluable and should be a part of everyone's ZScript toolbox.
Juandel, thanks! Now I know why the floor seemed so large to me. No Drain!
Actually, a drain between the feet, far enough forward so that the soap slightly overlaps, would tie everything together nicely. Be careful about how much chrome you add, though. Unless you want us to see more than we bargained for. ;)
WingedOne, this already looks great. My ramblings are from a guy who needs to knock out some of his own work, instead of living vicariously through others. :p

I'll try out the drain idea too. I want to change the shape of one of the water droplets too. There's one on the right nearby the toes that looks like a "Pac-Man Ghost" and it's been bugging me ever since. :)
When the new version comes out, in addition to the global illumination and soft shadows, I want to try that new "subsurface scattering material" or whatever that material will be called for the skin texture on the feet and on the soap as well.
I did a search on the web for other apps that use subsurface scattering and it looks like at this point only the really high end apps use it (Softimage, Maya, etc.), so we're going to be lucky when the next version comes out. :)

How did I miss this? That is just superb and that tile is great! The grout may be a little low (tile sticks up a little high) but that's all. And I think the suggestion about the drain is fantastic! :tu: :tu: :tu:
Adman...is there a hidden promise in there somewhere? You going to pull out a masterpiece on us soon? :D :D

This has a great sense of perspective. The addition of a wall to "contain" the floor may serve to bring an added depth to the final image.
Adman's idea of the drain works for me. I think it would, depending on where it is placed, create the classical "triangle" within the image. That focus: feet, soap/drain, would hold the viewer's eyes in the images' center.
So far: :tu: :tu: :tu:

looking great WO...I am doing a bathroom scene myself for a greeting card...love your tile work myself....yers is looking better than mine though.... :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:
Mentat,
Promises are risky for a man with little time on his hands. But, in honor of WingedOne and this thread, I may insert some tile into something I've been trying to finish.
cheers,
Adman

I'm glad someone else is 'holding out' an image for Dual-Rendering when we get the new version...I've been doing that with my 'Troll Hall' image. I would encourage people to consider doing this, so we can have the comparison.
Now to important stuff...You're developing a really clean graphic style, like high-quality airbrush work, and I really like it. I think compositionally, Juandels' suggestion about the soap being behind the feet would be less static, and more interesting, but hell...This is so clean and well conceived, I don't believe you can go wrong!!
:tu: :tu: :tu:  :tu: :tu: :tu:
You are a brave, brave man for setting yourself up for all the "soap jokes." :p :p
This picture is so crisp and perfect! Looks like you put a lot of work into it. Love your use of depth cue, don't need a wall, and the drain would be a nice touch.
Well done.
Good Idea.
I like it a lot.

As usual, very cool style WingedOne! I'm happy you have been able to put my script to such good use. (And supurb modeling of those feet, I bet they'll look even better with toenails! :))

Here's the latest update. I raised the grout level. Plus I completely re-did the tiles to get rid of the faceted appearence. I added tonails and a little more texture to the feet. I added the drain, plus a little extra "something". :) I tried out the suggestion of the walls, but I didn't like the outcome, so I'm leaving it wall-less. I guess it's pretty much done at this point, except for the re-rendering I plan to do when the new version of ZBrush comes out.
In every shower and bathtub lives the "drain creature". Sometimes when you open your eyes you can catch a brief glimpse of it as it slithers quickly back into the dark depths of your drain..."
Pleasant dreams everybody! BWAHAHAHAHAAAA! ;)

and the first image of the day for my well slept in eyes.....and a very nice update at that....snicker....good thing you didn't doo the thing that lives in the toilet...Mr. hanky's evil brother.. :) I love the whole composition of your little diddy for sure :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: You have a great eye for detail :tu: :tu: :tu:
Love the upate WingedOne! :tu: This whole thing is going to be so neat to see rendered in the next version! :)
I never thought I'd find myself complimenting someones grout but it really is well done along with all the other great details you've given us to look at. I can't wait to see these render comparisons, it's going to be very interesting

Love the drain monster...although it usually turns out to be your own hair clogging the drain, when you wipe your eyes and take a second look. Super update...the toenails work really well.

:tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: + lol, WingedOne!
somehow my drain-mentioning seems to have got its own impetus though having been meant as a joke only :D. i love the outcome!!!!
when i made that joke i did not think about it, but yours today post reminded me mucho of the drain i built for a mucho fun-thread with Digits concerning the microlife below my kitchens sink back at z-academy-days:

Great update, W/O!
As a 121, you might want to see what happens if you reverse the transparency graph, and tweek it for your material, as well as playing with the gel shader setting... ;)
:tu: :tu: :tu:  Molto Koolio!!
I love the way the tiles came out, and your nails! Unfortunately though imm never going to shower again, or wash another dish after seeing these illustrations!!! Maybe i should change my name to Puuu lol
Just trying to catch up after my trip. Very nice work, should be a great one when it is finished.
I know we gotta wait for the comparison, but what a great enviroment to make the test.
You would be suprised just how common those shower monsters are. I think that particular one is the kind that likes to run up your leg and eat the elastic off your shorts while you are singing in the shower.

:D as you shower with your clothes on, Floyd (as those of us being around here long enough know), the "AND" in "running up the legs and eating the elastics" could be replaced by a "FOR". now think what happens to the average wearer of sheer latexmanties (http://www.manties.net/) (thanks, Kruzr, for the tip :D)
