A very good looking image. I did a quick ZScript to help you out. I do not model but I do experiment a lot I hope this helps. Here is another Script. One of these should give you an idea.

Nice work on this character, projects personality. My only suggestion, as I think the beard works, is a different choice of materials for the face and beard. It has just a little too much specularity for skin and hair, I think with the right choice of material it could look fantastic

Nice work.
I particularly like his expression and the hood around his face. :tu: :tu:

cool image, brilliant expression. I agree that you could use a different material on the hair. Oh by the way I could not help but be reminded of the character in Planet of the apes, if you take away the hood and extend the mouth outwards  :tu: :tu: :tu:

He's a brilliantly done character, with an awesome face and expression.

For the hair, I see that you were trying to use the Fiber Brush and it was playing havoc with your material. The key to good Fiber Brushing is to set your lights the way that you want them and then bake the beard layer. (Layer>Modifiers>Bake) This converts the modeled hair to the Flat Color material, keeping the shaded coloring from your old material. Once that is done, use the Flat Color material for your Fiber Brush, as well, and you won't get any material wierdness at all. And as a couple of our other artists have shown, going back over the hair with the smudge brush adds a lot of realism to the effect.
