View Full Version : The face
Hello everyone,
This is the face :D ...I promise it will be the last one for a while as I have resumed Univeristy after a 2 week break. Initially this face started as a tutorial for a friend who is learning zbrush but as I continued to work , it began to take form a mind of its own....it requested I not stop until its completion. And so I present to you the face ( as it likes to be called ;)) :: http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200310/user_image-1065746470zlg.jpg
I would just like to thanks Southern for his light setup and Mentat for his Skin shader.
Any question comments and critique are very welcome.

Hi Kircho, That is one Zscript I would like to see! :D 50.
Excellent modeling as already mentioned the nose area is outstanding! :) :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :)
Thankyou all kindley for your comments .
Kokoro this head did not originate from a sphere rather I have created an adaptive skin from which to work from. I have attached the tool to this post....Headform.zip (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200311/user_file-1065880944rmv.zip)
50'sKID :)... Me too....I am still trying create a set method for creating faces with zbrush and when I figure it out...I will post it :))
I left the face to mature in my mind for a day and after some crits from a few friends of myne I aimed this update at making the face who is now named Shasho, not more realistic but believable as a character behind the confines of a human face.

If anyone would like to see the mesh please inform me.
I'd like to comment on the eyes for which I know I will be punished :)). I am still not able to composite two meshes with two different types of materials or am I aware of any other method to the same effect.
Here I have first painted the eyes seperatly rendering them finally with the same material as the face. Photoshop, to no great effect in my hands, was used to add some reflection and color variation aspacially on the lips as well as some color correction on the whole image.
Thanks once again to all the people who have taken the time to reply. As before Comments , Critque and questions are very welcome.

Hi Kircho
You can polymesh two objects together with different materials and have the materials 'stick'. What you need to do is apply the materials in TextureMaster to your textures so that they are 'indexed' together with those textures. Even if you are using only materials and no painted texture, just make a new texture with your base colour on for each part and paint your material onto these in TextureMaster and pick with 'M' activated.
I had the same problem a while back, so Aurick's answer here (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=000599) will explain this better.
Now my turn to get punished ;) I don't think I have ever seen convincingly rendered eyes in CG. Even Gollum's eyes, although very expressive, seemed glassy and lifeless 'inside'. If you are doing a still picture, I don't think there is any substitute yet to painting highlights on oneself rather than letting the material do the work

excellent head kircho! i love this one! the nose and lips are incredible and very look very real! the only thing that looks a little odd is that the eyes look a little small, but there is really no "right size" since everyone's anatomy is different. keep up the great modeling!

hello my mate Kircho
your head is very interesting, a peaceful character, and looks highly intelligent, especially with a large brain, like those telepathic creatures from the menagerie (star trek) i think i already mentioned?
the skin and eyes are soft and warm with subtle texture and lighting. zbrush is very intuitive......you and your work are great inspiration, i thank you for convincing me.
good luck with uni

I'm so impressed with this great image I've been back 3 times to look again.
Just a question. How many times is the mesh subdivided?
As far as the eyes go they look excellent and the post work on the mouth area is superior!

Thanks everyone again for thier help and encouraging comments.!!
-Bonecradle thank you very much for that tut. In the end with your help I was able to solve the problem.
Spacy :) :)...glad to see you here...how is your work progressing :)?....Thankyou kindley for you insightful comments , I feel now that I have achieved the goal of this face.
Blues thanks mate....I usually have the tendancy to subdivide way to much on all my work..for this reason I have adopted decimating particular area's of the mesh which do not require so much density. As you you have seen from my images above this is not a zbrush native feature, as during this process triangulation of the polygons occurs and as a result the mesh can no longer be smoothed, thus the facets.
Howver you can still see a map of the desity areas which I think are important. In the end the model was 100K polies heavy.
I will mention that when working on a face in particular it is wise to first create an adaptive mesh from z-spheres , creating as many as the orifaces during this process. It makes for a less painful and carefree modelling experience.

thanks once again
Kircho
thanks for the tool kircho. i noticed once that when you start modeling from a 3dsphere, your comp can handle a higher poly count than when you start from zif, of course to the cost of missing edge loops...

Hi Kircho, I am still facinated by the subtle modeling on this guy, even the creases on the neck. I expect him to open his mouth and say, "Hi". Thanks for the tool, I'll download and play with it and 'try to get into your head.' :D 50.
