Thanks for your kind comments - What I found unusual in the construction of the piece is that it only looks like the Big E when your in close. As you step back the face breaks up. This is the opposite of what I would usually have expected.

Basic technique as follows,
A tonal oversketch is set on it's own overlayer driven with a transparency material. Underneath that I modelled the main forms and over that placed on another layer, the build up volume tools are added and orientated by the 3D volume beneath. Much use is also made of the highlighter and fx brushes to add extra lighting, colorisation, blending and tonal control.

This was really an early experiment for creating a far larger and more involved pieces in the near future.
