You’ll be glad to know that a free upgrade to ZBrush1.55 (the full commercial version) is scheduled to be released in about a week, for Windows and Macintosh systems.
ZBrush1.55 includes: new Attractors-ZSpheres, Cubical skinning, resolved issues with ZScripts (such as with the MaterialPack ZScript), improved texturing with TextureMaster rev-F (improved 3D copy, updated UVTiles and new AUVTiles mapping), resolved time-sensitivity of the serial number, vertex based morph target, enhanced user interface with easy access to multiple interface configurations and to the default ZScript (ZLauncher ZScript), Compact ZScript format (.zsc), Starters Palette, in-program help system, import images/textures in JPG format and much more.
ZBrush1.55 is the first version to execute natively on Macintosh OSX (System 8.6+,OSX+).
Furthermore, when v1.6 is ready, it will also be made available as a free upgrade to registered users :)
More details will be posted next week.

Ahhhhhhh
Yay! :)
Damn this is good news. You guys rock!!!!
after the freaking mess some of us have been going through with Animation Master and the people that make that this is so refreshing a company that really talks and listens to the users.
Thanks guys
Dave
Jpg import? I love you ~L~ Thank you! I know jpg don't give the high quality that some demand. But I have so many jpg tex files. This opens them all up for z. (Yes I know I can convert them, but... I's lazy)
Super news. Very excited and although I've been busy with other stuff and haven't used z in awhile, I don't regret buying it for one minute. Dying to get back into it.

Splendid news!
Was really dieing o try out the displacement mapping, but I have plenty to learn before then anyway.
One question. Was there a mention at one point that an updated manual was coming out with the next version?
I am useless at reading off a computer for understanding but have been putting off printing out the 300 odd pages of the old manual if it is soon to be redundant.
Many thanks

More Zbrush... Yum!
GREAT!I just reread the post about the release of 1.55-and noticed the bottom line about version 1.6 being free to reg'd users-well we only supposed to get free upgrades to 1.5-but the good news just keeps on rolling in-thanks Ofer for going the extra mile.Wonderful news.
Coming from the man himself, I must say that I have something to look forward to. Thanks for a great Belated New Years Present Pix. :) :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :D

I'd like to second the question about the manual: will a new manual be made available with the release of 1.55? At this point the program has seen so many changes that the old manual is no longer helpful. It's somewhat troublesome to have to search through these message boards to find basic information about how various features in the program work.
Good news, though. I'm looking forward to 1.55!

thanks.
An updated manual is being worked on, and will be available either with the release or very shortly thereafter. Of course, it will end up being updated again for the following upgrade.

Yesss :) - finally the waiting is over - for now ;)
I'd like to know something though: Is displacement mapping available in ZB1.55? Because i didnt see it mentioned in the above post and id guess this is a very intersting feature which many of us are waiting for and it shouldnt be left out of the announcement ;)=
Anyways - great news :)

Oh this is great news! I just hope that the newest version will allow me to render with both flatten layers off and still get shadows. Right now if I want say a piece of jewellery with some transparent stones in it, and shadows on the whole piece, I can't do it. It is either one or the other.....

Yippeeeee! :D I'm glad I decided to hold fire until the commercial version was available - to now discover there will be this imminent intermediate version is excellent news. :D
And among all the other goodies I particular welcome the inclusion of JPG support for imported textures (lot of conversion work no longer needed, and quite a bit of disk space freed up), and the fix for the earlier ZScripts - I can have my much-missed "managers" back again!
I suspect the decision to release this version means that 1.6 is a little way off still? If so, I'm certainly not complaining. All these new toys now are plenty to keep me going while you guys work on getting everything spot on for 1.6 - so many thanks to all concerned. tu: :tu: :tu:
Manual - hmm. I think I'll wait for the version 1.6 upgrade before downloading and in particular printing that. If it's not too late, can I repeat a request someone made months ago: can we please have a standard A4 portrait format page for the manual instead of the landscape format of the old one? Easier for binding, and easier to use on limited desk space.
:) I'm working on the manual myself, and one of the first things that I did was to change to portrait layout rather than landscape. Several people had made the same request.

Aurick:
For those of us who have changed our basic email addresses since we have purchased and upgraded to ZBrush 1.5, how do we proceed, in one week, with downloading the "bonus upgrade". At what point after we receive this upgrade, will the software be "ours", as in not needing to worry about something causing the software not to work anymore? Answers to these most important questions will be determinate in many former users reestablishing ZBrush as a viable tool in our formidable arsenal.
sincerely,
Greg Smith
Customers who's email addresses have changed do not need to worry. Everything else will be explained in the announcement.

Is there a "ZBrush for Dummies"? I spend all day and much of the night with a 3d CAD program. I got ZBrush thinking a little free form would be relaxing. I've learned to model a bit, but it really is very different. I've run a lot of ZScipts and read the manual and the forum. I'd like to try those cartoon women. I see how to make the parts, it's putting them together...I'm lost.
I still have no clue about a lot of things. Like how do you paint on textures or materials, how to assemble things in a scene. Why do you call objects tools, etc. Some of the advanced stuff is truely incredible, but where does one start?
Maybe someone could put the ZScripts in order. Start with the 1st level ZScripts, the most basic operations and fundamental knowledge. Don't proceed to level 2 ZScripts until you master level 1.
Am I the only one in ZLand who is having trouble?

Is this the upgrade to version 1.51(commercial)?

Wooo hooooo! All this and OSX too! THanks, Pixolator!
Yay!! osX native!!!
I only payed a few days ago and am still using my temporary serial number.. Should I wait until 1.55 is out and get one for that..
Woooo!! keep up the good work!! os x native!! os X native! *does the os X native dance*
:D :D
Mixel: Apparently the serial number situation is fixed in this update so you may as well hang on for that...I don't think yours will have run out by then anyway.
3d_Arch: The Beginners links in the Quicklinks section should be what you're after.
That's great news, but what I really need is a detailed printed handbook. I'm unable to learn with what exists (the not detailed at all PDF book). When will this happen?

Awesome news! Thanks so much for getting the OSX version out the door. I think I recall that ideally y'all might have wanted to release a 1.6 version next, but I for one am happy that you decided to go ahead and release 1.55 so I can run it in OSX.
I also want to thank you for remembering that the 1.6 version with the displacment mapping etc is the ultimate version everyone is waiting for. This bonus update is a refreshing change of pace compared to the way many companies act nowadays.
When companies honor promises, I honor companies by continuing to purchase upgrades. ..sounds like a synergistic relationship to me. :D So...I may not be a zbrush standout as far as talent goes, but I'll be using it and buying upgrades for a long time to come.

I guess y'all can't wait for the new version, and neither can I. I'm hoping that the displacement mapping, when it arrives, will work fine with Poser5 which supports displacement mapping. As bad as artifacts are with 2D textures, I imagine they look much, much worse with displacements, so here's hoping it all works as planned. BTW, here in northern WV, USA, most of us say "y'all" alot. But as soon as you cross into PA it becomes "y'uns". I'm not sure what that's short for, and I truly can't believe it no longer sounds strange to me when the waitress says "What'd y'uns want to drink?"

Lucky you. Wanna trade? :D
When upgrading to OS X 10.2, I reformatted my HD, and did not reinstall ZBrush (I remembered it was kind of a pain to get ZBrush running after reformatting before).
Will there be considerable hoops to jump through to upgrade to/install ZBrush 1.55?
e.g., will I need to re-install a previous (OS 9) version, then upgrade?
thanx.
hmmm... I just noticed a 1.55 demo link, but Mac sys requirements still say "Classic only"

Thor --
If the ZBrush I bought at MacWorld is any indication, it will run on OS X 10.2.3 just fine. I don't know about the "hoop" cuz 1.55R2 is my initial install of ZBrush.
mr
I also saw the demo for 1.55 and it says that it does not work in OS X and that there will be a free update in the near future. Will the comercial version work with OS X or will we have to wait (ugh!) a little bit longer for the X!?
Hello Xacto.
As the post says, this version will operate natively in OS X.
For others who've asked, it will not be necessary to have a previous version currently installed in order to install the upgrade.
When now does the update come? I am already completely impatient. :)

Whatever happens tomorrow, whether it comes or it doesn't. Pixologic is keeping my full admiration and support, making something as incredible as Zbrush is hard in a way that very few things are hard.
In my whole life I have not come across anything so tangible that is more amazing, more significant, or is a greater gift than Zbrush! That makes me lucky, and I shall continue to feel it.
