I apologize for making this so damn big!Wasn't thinking.I realize the ZBrush team must be very busy right now-so I will ask my question again and I will wait- maybe someone else is experiencing the same problem-as can be seen by the screen shot I've included I attempted to make a polymesh object out of the three objects( this was just for experimental purposes)-the inner sphere and cylinder were already a tool-the subsequent new tool had a total of some 12000 plus or minus polygons-this doesn't seem like alot(I've had one object created in QUASZ that weighed in at a hefty 90MB's that except for being quite a load to drag around the screen functioned just fine) but not being really knowledgeable about this sort of thing I don't know-am I missing something here?Any information from anybody would be appreciated. http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads0/user_image-996282837hwg.jpg
thankyou

Hi Rhom . . . :)

Excuse me for not being too swift tonight, I've had a long & rough day. :(

What is it that you want to know? Is the "Error" the problem or is it the strange shape of the objects?

If it's the error, well I've had several of them since the install of 1.23, but not with the suggestion to restart my computer. Usually when I get the error message, I have to restart ZBrush & everything seem to be fine for a while longer. Sometimes I have to reboot, if I've been using the computer for a lengthly time. I think it's due to ZBrush not releasing memory after working on large files?

Let me know what the problem is exactly & I'll try to reproduce it over here. ;)

Talk to'ya later . . . Mark.

hmmm, rhom, i just tried to reproduce your problem but have not encountered any crashes doing the following, BUT i encountered my own troubles, so, if you dont mind, i’m gonna add to this thread:

i was
placing 2 rings and a sphere, marking their positions-clear canvas-activate MMtool-paint/activate all three objects at once-make polymesh (12000 something polygons)-go to markerpalette/deleting all markers-clear canvas-place another ring/mark it-load the new polymeshed3objectstool/mark it-clear canvas-activate MMtool(i took care to NOT load MMcopy1)-both the ring and the 2rings1sphereobject is loading fine-now lets see, we’ll just combine them by pressing "make polymesh" and: argh!
the mac does NOT crash but the only thing saved is a MM.ztl (no icon for new polymeshtool shows up like it did with the first object/just a new one for the new single ring) which behaves like a MM-composite, which parts can be moved/rotated and the like but not edited
next thing i try is to export each of the new tools as an .obj to be able to import it into a polymeshtool (our famous Z-star) to combine them there. according to the dialogue i can export as .obj but when i try to import it into the star there is no .obj in my savefile??... the only thing saved when i thought i’m saving an .obj is a .bmp and a .mtl. even worse: when i export as a .dxf: there is nada

hmmm, i hope this was not too confusing for anyone taking time to read until here. obviously problems start when trying to add another object to a MMcreated polymeshtool... but putting single objects together within one MM-sitting and into a single .ztl works absolutely smoooooth (i personally like it much better than adding/composing objects via star-tool) and is a major 1.23 enhancement! :D

Juandel-Thankyou for taking the time to look into this-my results with the MM tool and with the polymesh tool have been good and not
so good-I will have to say that I did get a polymesh last night that had 90,000poly count
and no error message so I'll just keep playing with it.

Hi Rhom. You don't by any chance have 128 meg of memory? Looking at your Memory bar (at the top of the screen) you are using 116meg of ram and ZERO virtual memory. If you have the virtual memory slider turned right down, and ZBrush can't access it when it needs more, then it may crash. Try pumping up the virtual-memory slider (in the preferances?)
Upham. :)

Hi Upham-
I don'think that is the problem-I've got 640
Megs of ram and I've allocated 512 of that in my preferences for ZBrush to access-I think I've only gotten to using all I've allocated twice. Thanks for the tip on the virtual memory slider I didn't know that was there.(there's probably alot there that I don't know about.)

'Morning all . . . :)

If I may throw in a comment on the "Polymesh" tool? So far it's been my experience when using the "Polymesh" tool, that before placing a "Marker" for each object I want to use, I first have to use the "Fill" command to lock the color - material - texture to each object. Then I place my "Marker", repeating this process for each object before placing new "Markers". Then when using the "MultiMarkers" tool, I get a complete object with all the proper colors - materials - textures on each part of the new object. ;)

This seems to be the only way I can get a completed object with the proper colors - materials - textures assigned to each separate part.

In the "Marker / Modifiers" pallette there are buttons for what each marker should remember, Color - Material - Texture & several others. But when I used this feature I didn't get the results I wanted.

Hope this help some for other users??? Have a good one . . . Mark.
